MudThe movie "Mud" will be offered through a collaboration between Purdue University North Central's Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series and Michigan City Public Library. The showing is free and open to the public.

"Mud" will be shown on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. Fourth St. in Michigan City.

The film is rated PG-13 for some violence, sexual references, and language.

"Mud", written and directed by Jeff Nichols, is a highly personal, warm and humorous work about the transition between carefree boyhood and adolescence in Arkansas. Told from the subjective viewpoint of 14 year-old Ellis, his experiences, insecurities and "growing pains" are examined through adventures with his friend, Neckbone. The boys meet a drifter named "Mud," played by Matthew McConaughey, on an island on the Mississippi where he is hiding out. The boys are skeptical of his claim that he's being pursued by bounty hunters, but agree to help him anyway. Chaos ensues. "Mud" also stars Reese Witherspoon.

Film critics referred to the film as being "Huckleberry Finn-ish" in its sensitive and engrossing portrayals.
