PNC Faculty Member Earns Outstanding Online Teaching Award

Christabel Rogalin2The Purdue University North Central faculty member Dr. Christabel Rogalin, associate professor of Sociology, has been selected to receive the Purdue University Outstanding Online Teaching Award for her course "Social Psychology of Marriage."

The award recognizes Purdue faculty and instructional staff members who demonstrate excellence in their distance or online projects and show a well-designed approach to instruction, effective application of distance/online learning methods and best practices to facilitate student learning and have a positive impact on the learners served, as reflected by program evaluations or other documentation of appropriate measures.

She was honored recently at a recent awards reception on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus

Dr. Karen Schmid, PNC vice chancellor for Academics, noted this recognition reflects Rogalin's commitment to providing quality online instruction to provide learning options to students.

"Online courses are important to help our students make progress on their degrees and to graduate, given their complicated schedules," said Schmid. "We live in a technological world and online courses prepare students for this world. At PNC, we have focused on developing high-quality online courses and this award demonstrates our commitment to quality."

Dr. Rex Morrow, dean of the PNC College of Liberal Arts, noted the importance of significance of this award, "As a university responsive to the 21st century needs of students in diverse and distant settings, online instruction is a valuable mode of teaching designed to provide opportunities to provide higher education across the state of Indiana and beyond. Dr. Rogalin's online course, 'Social Psychology of Marriage,' is a component of study in the PNC Behavioral Science-Sociology, Psychology and Social Work degree programs. The Department of Social Science and I are delighted with Purdue's Award and the recognition that Dr. Rogalin has received for her online course."
