PNC Delta Sigma Club Raises Money for Flu Vaccinations

Sigma-Club-Flu-VaccinationsPurdue University North Central student members of the Delta Sigma science club are selling t-shirts to raise money to provide free flu vaccinations for PNC students, staff, faculty and members of the surrounding communities.

The shirts are available for sale for $15 each for adult sizes small thru extra-large. Orders are being taken for children's sizes for $15 and adult extended sizes through 4XL for $17. Monetary donations are also being accepted. To obtain a t-shirt or to make a donation, contact Dr. Vanessa Quinn, associate professor of Biology and Delta Sigma faculty advisor, at vquinn@pnc.edu or visit Lisa Smith, PNC College of Science secretary in PNC Schwarz Hall, Room 120 or call her at 219-785-5298.

The vaccinations will be available for persons ages 18 and older on Nov. 20 in PNC Library-Student-Faculty Building, Room 144 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Because there are some medical constraints on who can and cannot receive a vaccination, this will be discussed with each person who comes to be vaccinated.

The Delta Sigma club members support a variety of community service events and the students chose to support flu vaccinations because they understand the importance of having a healthy community, said Quinn.

Club President Stefanie Rigg spearheaded this event and applied for an Indiana Campus Compact Grant to fund this project. That grant, coupled with the contributions generated by the t-shirt sales will fund the purchase of the flu vaccinations.
