Peregrines Shutout Trinity Christian for 11th Win of the Season

PUC-Peregrines-Shutout-Trinity-Christian-for-11th-Win-of-the-SeasonThe Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Trinity Christian Wednesday afternoon.

The Peregrines (11-3-2, 7-3-1 CCAC) defeated the Trolls (1-16, 0-11 CCAC) for their 11th win on the year, the most wins in a season since the program was reinstated in 2012.

In the 16th minute of the match, senior JP Garza (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) netted his third goal of the year from the top of the 18-yard box to give the Peregrines the early 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore Zac Doepke (Troy, Mich./Troy) added on to the Peregrines lead, after scoring on a pass from Papa Otoo (Bradenton, Fla./ Braden River), which gave the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead.

Purdue Calumet would add one more goal before the break, after a pass from Alexis Avalos (Hammond, Bishop Noll) to teammate Kwesi Annoh (Brown Mills, NJ/Pemberton Township) found the back of the net to put the Peregrines up 3-0.

Midway through the second half, Cristian Garcia (Whiting, Ind./Clark) would pick up his fifth goal of the season on a pass from Garza to help solidify the Peregrines 4-0 win.

Freshman keeper Jonathan Lozano (Hammond, Ind./Bishop Noll) registered his first shutout in goal for the Black and Gold, recording four saves in the victory.

The Peregrines return to action for their last regular season game of the season on Saturday, Oct. 31, as they host CCAC foe Calumet St. Joseph at 2:30 p.m. at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field.
