Training for anything takes time, dedication, stamina, and commitment. Paul Boyter, Real Estate Agent at McColly, expected all of these things, and decided to take a step outside of his comfort zone for a great cause.
This year, the Duneland Family YMCA will host the 8thannual Dancing like the Stars competition at Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa Stardust Event Center on Saturday, November 9th. This year’s theme is “The British Invasion” and features performances to music from the era when British rock stars ruled the airwaves.
Each year, local community leaders volunteer their time and talent to provide community members and supporters with an evening of enjoyment. All proceeds from the event go toward ensuring a brighter future for Duneland community families by helping to provide YMCA programs and services that are available to all.
Specifically on our radar over at GreatNews.Life is Paul Boyter and his partner Julia Demma, who is also a contributing editor for the Life sites.
“With McColly being a partner of ours, it has been an awesome experience getting to work with the company in a different environment,” Demma said. “Paul has been working so hard in practice each week, and I know he is going to make his colleagues, family, and community members proud when he steps out on that stage.”
This year, stand seven other community leaders will be alongside Boyter, including Tiffany Bozovich of Bozovich Wellness; Jill Catherman of Duneland YMCA; Joe Christian of Arrested Sounds and the Chesterton Police Dept.; Jason Harris of JLH Appraisals; Elizabeth Marks of Lakeside Wealth Management; Brent Martinson of Duneland School Corp.; and Kevin Murray of Val’s Famous Pizza & Grinders.
Most do not have dance experience, but have decided to try their hand at a dance routine to be performed in front of hundreds of audience members in order to raise money for the YMCA.
“I’m nervous for it, but I’m also looking forward to going out there and having fun. My partner makes it easy, she’s wonderful and I give her kudos,” said Boyter.
Practice for the big performance began the first week of September, and the community stars have been put to the test both mentally and physically preparing their routines.
“I’ve been dancing my booty off,” Boyter laughed. “I’ve put a lot of time and effort into my routine, and I really believe it’s made me grow as a person.”
But what makes it all worth it for those who decided to participate? For Boyter, it’s what the mission of the community event stands for.
“I love the YMCA, both of my kids have done soccer and basketball there, and I’ve also coached these teams and been involved. I love the many programs the YMCA provides,” said Boyter. “It’s such a wonderful place for our community.”
