Patrick’s Grille provides opportunities for growth to staff members

When you enter a new workplace and begin to fall into the swing of things, you usually are looking to grow within the company and climb up the ladder. At Patrick’s Grille, this window of opportunity is open for the taking by hard-working, driven employees.

Within the walls of most non-chain restaurants, there is only one location with one standard of business, so there aren’t very many areas in which to move, climb, or get experience. However, Patrick’s Grille, provides employees a unique opportunity for growth.

One of the reasons Patrick’s is able to offer more growth opportunities than other restaurants is due to having two locations. Their main location, located in Michigan City, offers fine dining in an upscale, casual atmosphere that most locals consider their go-to. Patrick’s has seen many employees progress during their time at the restaurant, but one stands out to Julie Krause, Catering & Events Manager at Patrick’s Grille.

“We have one exceptional staff member that had been hired as a dishwasher and salad prep at Patrick's when we first opened.  After working alongside Chef Rick after a while, he has learned to run the line in our kitchen and can step in during Chef's absence,” Krause said.

During the summer months, community members flood into Patrick’s second location, Sunset Grille, also in Michigan City. The second location has served as a great area of opportunity for staff members to get more managerial experience.

“Patrick's has been blessed to be successful and grow, and our staff has had the opportunity to work and grow with us as we expand,” Krause said. “Our staff has also had opportunities to step into management roles at our Sunset Grille location during the summer.”

There aren’t many restaurants that are rooftop beach havens in Northwest Indiana, so those who want the unique experience and opportunity to work at one are offered the chance in addition to working at Patrick’s during the colder months.

Patrick’s Grille is also working toward expanding and growing their catering department, which will create further opportunity for growth within the company. The restaurant firmly believes in hiring and moving forward staff members who are going to continue to build on the family atmosphere.

“Patrick's hires exceptional staff members, and we believe in utilizing their skills and strengths throughout our company when we have opportunities,” Krause said. “Our guests look forward to seeing our staff members as much as they enjoy dining at the restaurant. You could say we have become one big family.”

Many of Patrick’s Grille’s and Sunset Grille’s frequent diners can attest to this statement.

“I personally know people who visit Patrick’s specifically because of the friendly, professional, and attentive staff. When my parents and I go there, we know as soon as we see Judy and Dean behind the bar, we’re going to get excellent service, and a fantastic drink. And they’ll ask about our lives, too,” said Stacey Kellogg, editorial director at GreatNews.life. “It says something that Patrick’s puts the right people in the right positions, because it makes for a great dining experience, whether you’re at the bar or at a table.”
