The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Truman. The unanimous passage of the bill signifies that prayer is as important to our nation today as it was in the beginning. The National Day of Prayer enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions.

So how does this fit with the mission of the Boy Scouts of America? The BSA programs mentor youth, build character, support faith traditions, and help establish partners for lifelong learning, healthy living, and serving others. Locally, the Potawatomi District has 41 local charter partners and services over 1,000 youth members with hundreds of local adult volunteers in LaPorte, Starke, and Berrien Counties through the LaSalle Council.
