On October 2nd, Notre Dame Catholic School participated in the 13th Annual Time Out for Reading event presented by the Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition. The Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition, Inc. is an organization which serves to eliminate illiteracy by promoting adult and youth literacy.
Through cooperation among area literacy providers and local coalitions in the seven counties of Lake, Porter, La Porte, Starke, Newton, Jasper and Pulaski, the organization has helped countless individuals for over 25 years. One in five individuals is functionally illiterate, and illiteracy can translate into unemployment, low productivity, poverty, and crime.
The Time Out for Reading event is a fun way to bring together groups, organizations, and individuals to support literacy while simultaneously embracing reading. The entire school gathered on our playground for a picture to celebrate reading together.
