Northwestern University and La Lumiere School Partner for Weekend Program

La-Lumiere-SchoolNorthwestern University and La Lumiere School have partnered to bring local 5-8 graders an exciting weekend enrichment opportunity. The Accelerated Weekend Experience (AWE) provides academically bright students in grades 5 through 8 an opportunity to explore a subject of study in depth and with concentration, with an expert in the field, over one weekend.

The following programs will be available on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at La Lumiere School, located at 6801 N. Wilhelm Road, La Porte, IN 46350. StarLogo (Grades 5-6)
Learn to build and program your own 3D game using StarLogo TNG, a computer programming and modeling environment designed for interactive 3D games and simulations. Practice programming, agent-based modeling and acquire numerous computer science skills. No previous programming experience is necessary - just bring a strong imagination, lots of creativity and a willingness to experiment!

Forensic Science (Grades 7-8) Forensic Scientists use skills and techniques that come from a variety of disciplines - logic, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and technology - to solve mysteries. This course covers observational skills, perceptual fallacies, codes and code breaking, osteology, chromatography, criminology and more. Students will extract DNA, take fingerprints, analyze blood spatters and discuss famous-and infamous-cases.
