Northwest Indiana Welcomes Large and Giant Breed Dog Rescue

Giant-Paw-Prints-RescueGiant Paw Prints Rescue aides the pet rescue effort by helping Large and Giant Breed dogs.

Giant Paw Prints Rescue was founded by Cathy Nolan, as she witnessed more and more large and giant breed dogs being turned into area shelters. Over the years, Cathy has worked with rescues across the country by pulling and transporting mainly giant breed dogs from shelters and providing veterinary care (Thank You Dr. Rachael Jones, Southlane Veterinary Hospital, Valparaiso, IN), temporary housing (Thank You Dawn Eliason, Happy Tails Boarding, Hobart, IN), and fresh bath (Thank You, Kim Wilson, Smoochie Pooch Mobile Pet Spa) without charging adoption fees or asking for reimbursement of her costs upon placement of a rescue in a permanent or foster home.

In July of this year, Cathy decided to focus her attention on the rescue of more local giants. With a group of volunteers in the animal care industry, she has made her dream come true. A Board of Directors consisting of local citizens, entrepreneurs, and animal care specialists was established, and Giant Paw Prints Rescue is now incorporated in Indiana and the paperwork for non-profit status filed with the state.

To date Giant Paw Prints has rescued seven dogs including five from Hammond Animal Control (a high risk shelter) and two from Porter County Animal Shelter. One puppy, in particular,is a four- month-old Giant Schnauzer with a broken femur and cracked pelvis that was dumped at the Hammond shelter.A veterinary exam showed she also has a partially healed broken rib as well as a skin infection and a urinary tract infection. Hammond called and pleaded for us to take her as they don’t have the resources to provide the care she required. “Brooklyn” is now in a foster home and, after some healing time, will be ready for her furever home!.

It is our mission to help pets in need. In order to do so without the benefit of a physical shelter facility, we rely upon donations and volunteers. With your help, we can save many more pets and give them the second chance in life that they so desperately desire and deserve. We continually seek foster homes to help puppies learn their manners and to give them a home until a more permanent one can be found. Friend us on facebook at Giant Paw Prints Rescue.
