This week, NorthShore Health Centers celebrated the moms in their Family Care Program by hosting a Mother’s Day Event on May 12th at the medical location at 2490 Central Avenue in Lake Station. Moms in attendance enjoyed free lunch including chicken, pizza, and cupcakes all donated by Cappo’s Casual Dining, Bam Pizza and Marsha’s Sweet Stuff of Portage. Purdue Extension Food and Nutrition Program also provided a healthy snack and recipe ideas.
While moms relaxed with lunch, NorthShore staff assisted children with a Mother’s Day poem and handprint project. There was a special appearance from Beauty and the Beast’s Belle compliments of Fairly Fairy Entertainment Services. Children enthusiastically visited and took pictures with Belle while the princess handed each mom a flower and gift bag filled with assorted bubble bath, lotions, and body sprays for pampering along with a $10 Mary Kay gift certificate courtesy of LJ Payton, Mary Kay Sales Director. Moms were also able to browse community resource tables from Anthem Indiana Medicaid, Babies R Us, Geminus Head Start and Pack the Rack as well as sort through and take home gently used baby items including clothes, shoes, toys and formula.
NorthShore’s Family Care Program is available to all Northwest Indiana families with children under age two providing education and resources to support a strong, healthy family.
