As one of the Region’s leaders of providing comprehensive and affordable healthcare, NorthShore Health Center has expanded its optometry services with an addition to their team. Dr. Audrey Dawson is the latest to join the NorthShore team, and has extensive background matched with her passion for helping people.
The Detroit native attended Michigan State University before attending InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry.
“A lot of people take their vision for granted,” Dawson said. “I wanted to be able to help patients in their daily lives.”
The board-certified optometrist joined the team in January and is excited about the move to NorthShore. She specializes in primary and urgent eye care, pre- and post-operative care, and specialized contact lens fits including scleral and rigid gas permeable lenses. Dawson also is an expert in diagnosing, treating and managing ocular diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye, and corneal conditions.
“I love the look on people’s faces when they realize what they’ve been missing,” Dawson said. “With the individualized care I provide, their world is completely different after they’re able to see properly.”
Dawson has lived in Northwest Indiana for three years. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, wakeboarding and hiking with her dog around the Region.
“I really like Northwest Indiana and the people here,” Dawson said. “It reminds me of where I grew up in Michigan.”
She is a member of the American Optometric Association and Indiana Optometric Association, and is accepting new patients at the NorthShore Health Center, 2490 Central Avenue, Lake Station.
