The South Shore CVA and the Lake County Bicentennial Committee are looking for Lake County residents who demonstrate exceptional public service, excellence, acts of heroism or volunteer service in their community to bear the torch during Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration and Torch Relay.
“This is a chance for 30 of our neighbors to be recognized for their services. We’re looking for the best of the best to showcase Lake County during our portion of the race,” stated Larry Blanchard, Chairman for the Bicentennial Committee. He continued, “Torchbearers of every age, race and gender are welcome. The torch has been designed to never burn out and can be carried while walking, running, biking or even carried in a car. We encourage everyone to take part in the event and nominate exceptional people for this honor.”
The torch relay will begin on Sept. 9, 2016 in Corydon and end with a celebration Oct. 15, 2016 at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. The torch will travel through Lake County on Oct. 9 and Oct. 11, 2016, as it makes the 2,300-mile journey through each of Indiana’s 92 counties.
The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay is designed to inspire and unify Hoosiers as one of the major commemorative events of the 2016 Bicentennial celebration. More information about Bicentennial celebrations in Lake County will be announced soon.
