NIETF Seeking Volunteer Viewers in 2015-16 Season

By: Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation (NIETF) Last Updated: July 15, 2015

rot5For over twenty years, the Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation (NIETF) has been recognizing excellence in community theatre in Northwest Indiana at our annual Gala event each October. Presentations of awards are given in all sorts of areas, ranging from Best Play and Best Actor & Actress to various technical awards. However, prior to the Gala, many hours of dedicated work is put into evaluating the various productions.

Volunteers are needed to be Viewing Members of NIETF for the 2015-2016 season. The viewing year runs from September 1, 2015 - August 31, 2016. Viewers are a critical component to NIETF's success. It requires an extraordinary commitment of time and expertise. Viewers regularly see between 12-20 plays or musicals each year, evaluating all acting and technical aspects of a production, offering creative critiques, and making note of items and individuals which they believe to be exceptional and worthy of additional recognition. Those that view both plays and musicals may see upwards of 40 productions in one year.

New viewers must select either plays or musicals to evaluate for the coming year. Once a viewer has viewed for one complete season, he or she may add the other category if they so desire. Theatres are located across the Northwest Indiana region from Hammond to Michigan City to Cedar Lake and all points in between. A commitment to excellence and integrity in objectivity are what make the program successful. Viewers are not compensated with pay, however they do see the productions for free. Nominations are submitted via an online form within 72 hours of seeing the show. Viewers are expected to see as many shows as possible, but at a minimum are required to see 75% of all viewable shows presented during the season. Additionally, there are orientation and training sessions held prior to the viewing season. Once the viewing year is finished, final voting sessions and the awards gala are held the following fall.

If you believe that you have expertise in one or more areas of theatre, a sense of objectivity, and a willingness to travel throughout the region to enjoy and evaluate productions, NIETF would invite you to complete the online application at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NFWK3BZ. If selected, a board member of the organization will be in contact with you with more details. Deadline for survey completion is July 17, 2015.
