Elmo Osborn “Red” Elliott, Jr., 93 of Westville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023. He was born June 1, 1930 in Wanatah, Indiana to Elmo and Mildred (Hill) Elliott. He was married to Joanne Elizabeth Wright on July 23, 1950.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joanne, his parents, two brothers, Eldred Elliott and Charles Elliott, and his great-grandchild Savannah Mull.
He is survived by his daughters Rebecca Elliott (Emilio Sobral) of Apex, NC and Laurel Elliott (partner Dwayne Matthews) of Indianapolis; sons Ronald (Sheryl) Elliott and Michael Elliott, both of Westville; grandsons Jonathan Mull of Apex,NC, Kristopher Elliott of Covert, MI, Kelly Elliott of Michigan City, Nicholas Elliott Fort Wayne, and three great grandchildren Connor Mull, Kaitlyn Elliott and Nolan Elliott. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Barbara) Elliott of Westville and Byron (Karen) Elliott of Las Vegas, NV and sisters Barbara (Arnold,deceased) Coates and Betty Townsend, both of Westville. Elmo served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Zirndorf, Germany. He founded two businesses, Stone and Elliott Masonry and then Elliott Masonry. He was a member of the Westville Lions Club for over 50 years, serving in many capacities. Elmo served as President of the Pinhook Cemetery Board, overseeing the care and maintenance of the cemetery. For many years he was a member of the Bricklayers Union Local 4. He was a founding member of the Westville Historical Society, designing and constructing the Westville Veterans Memorial. He was a member of the 1948 Westville High
School Basketball Team, which still holds the school win-loss record.
Funeral services will be 11:00 on Thursday, November 2 nd at Newhard Funeral Home. Janice Buchanan will officiate. Burial will be in Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Pinhook Cemetery, 7244 W. 500 S. LaPorte, IN 46350.
