New Prairie succeeds at HOSA International Leadership Competition

Covid-19 can't slow down NPUSC HOSA! 

HOSA is an international organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. More than 8,000 competitors from the US, Canada, and China competed in 77 academic events at the International Leadership Conference that should have taken place in Houston, but instead were done virtually.  Students not only competed in their event, but also had the opportunity to virtually attend symposiums and a career expo.  

NPUSC HOSAs ILC team consisted of 34 members who submitted 11 projects online and completed 65 tests over a 7 day period. Let's not forget- they are on summer break!

Congratulations to  team members who were medalists in their events:
Petra H- Occupational Health & Safety- 2nd
Maddie Andrysiak- Physical Therapy- 2nd *includes a full scholarship to Sullivan University
Kendel Coursel- Health Career Exploration- 3rd
Anna Jasnieski- Healthy Lifestyle- 3rd

Team members who were recognized as the Top 10 in their event (place 4-10) includes:

Myles Aerts & Matthew Dettinger- Health Career Display
Kayleigh Michael & Kaylee Hoggard- Health Career Display
Owen Chalik- Math for Health Careers
Marcus Sehi- Nutrition
Brittany Kassinger- Health Career Preparation
Ava Morton- Life Threatening Situations

In addition, advisor Tonya Aerts and Julie West of the Play for Jake Foundation were invited to share information on their campaign to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), AEDs & the importance CPR in honor of two young men, Jake (LPHS) and Mark (NPHS) who both passed away from SCA.  Their mission is to help schools and their surrounding communities gain a rescue ready attitude and provide a heart safe environment.
