Garage Sale Season is almost upon us. Daffodils will be popping up and so will garage doors.
Has this ever happened to you? You’re told that the paperweight in your hand is the last one from Great-Grandmother’s collection and you pay whatever is being asked! Then you unwrap it at home and find a Wal-Mart sticker on the bottom.
Carol Estes, owner of the Antique Junction Mall, will be doing a program entitled “How to Spot an Antique” at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum on Saturday, March 16th at 1P.M. in the meeting room. There will be a conversation focusing on antiquing, identification, family heirlooms, and improving your collecting skills. Items from the Historical Society’s vast collection will be compared with items that Carol will bring with her.
Carol has been the owner of the Antique Junction since 1987. She has a long family history of antiquing, as her family in Missouri raised her attending estate sales. Her parents were very sentimental, and decorated their home with pieces from friends and family. Carol relocated to La Porte in 1982. With her inquiring mind, and degree in broadcast communications, she has spent decades researching the origin and purpose of items. Many times you will find her answering such questions posed by her customers. Carol also branched out into photography recently, and is working on creating her own line of greeting cards, including antiques and collectibles.
The program is free; however, regular museum admission will apply. The La Porte County Historical Society Museum is located at 2405 Indiana Ave., in La Porte. Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission prices are: $6 for out-of-county residents, $5 for out-of-county Seniors, $3 for La Porte County adults, $3 for ages 12 – 17, and free for children under 12.
