Native American Heritage Day at I.F.G.

Native-American-Heritage-Day-1You can hear the sound of drumming and native american songs waifting through the air on Sunday, July 7th. Different events will run from noon to 4pm cst. International Friendship Gardens considers it important to honor the first gardeners in our area. The early woodland natives understood the essence of foraging, hunting and fishing, trading and cultivation of certain plants necessary to maintain their lifestyle. On Sunday, July 7th, that honoring will happen again.

At noon, the event will begin with a native american striking the fire in the traditional manner. There will be other re-enactors and craftspeople working on authentic demonstrations and happy to talk to visitors about their work. Check out the Native American Gardens on site, listen to the flute player and visit with the craftspeople. Children can make native american crafts projects.

At 3:00, Marilee Snyder, Michigan City, of Sage Spirit Terra, will lead a celebration through the use of drums and native american songs. Visitors may participate if they wish and are encouraged to do so.

Native-American-Heritage-Day-2Come early, walk around the beautiful gardens, visit the ducks, geese, turtles, etc., or take the guided trails in the woods (numbered signs and a matching brochure available at the entry cabin).
