Name That Book Contest at La Porte County Library

LP Name That Book Contest1Fifteen teams of area sixth grade students participated in the very popular contest entitled “Name That Book”, held at the main branch of the La Porte County Public Library on Monday, November 19. Of the fifteen teams consisting of 68 students, the team from Boston Middle School won first place, with Westville Elementary and Oregon Davis placing second and third respectfully.

Boston Middle School’s team was included Zachary Eason, Patrick Lipscomb, Matthew Mitchell, Tucker Magill and RJ Pray. Westville’s team was comprised of Chloe Bacon, Jessica Griffin, Angela Shebel and Christopher Sherwood. Oregon Davis had Tony Billegas, Hunter Clark, Winter Pitts and McKenzie Ramey on their team. All 68 participants did an outstanding job and represented their schools very well.

LP Name That Book Contest2This Name That Book contest for sixth grade students was the 20th held at La Porte County Public Library. It is a program that was conceptualized in 1993 and developed to engage middle school students with reading. The program brings additional readers to the library, helps keep sixth grade students interested in the library and reading while increasing their reading skills, vocabulary, and knowledge, and teaches teamwork. Participating schools find that this program is fun, educational and rewarding for its students.
