Music for Food

Cripple-CreekCRIPPLE CREEK will present a concert on Sunday afternoon, March 9th, 2014, as a benefit to help the Salvation Army. Proceeds will be used to help fund the general expenses and to supplement the food pantry purchases. All are invited, tickets are not needed but a $5 dollar donation at the door is being asked for.

The concert will be at the Door Village United Methodist Church and will begin at 4PM. Afterwards, refreshments will be served. The concert will help to make-up for the shortfall in this year’s Christmas Kettle drive. Thank You La Porte and our friends at Door Village UMC and Pastor Billy Nickrand for your support. Pictured above are band members Steve Eyrick, Mitch Marhanka (back row) and David Applegarth, Lou Voelker, John Langford (Front Row).

Cripple Creek enjoys singing country and gospel music and occasionally wanders into old time rock and roll. They all live in the Door Village area of La Porte County. Practices are held on Mitch’s front porch with the audience being a herd of dairy heifers. Each member is active in church music at Door Village UMC where Mitch is the music director. David’s musical background is piano and vocal music and Lou’s is guitar and vocals. Both David and Lou are Alumni of the Purdue Glee Club. Mitch’s musical background includes piano, tuba, bass guitar, and vocal music. John plays the trumpet with time spent in the Purdue and Notre Dame Jazz Bands. Steve participated in community choruses including Valparaiso University choir, and church choirs.

Cripple Creek had their beginnings with Mitch Marhanka and Lou Voelker playing local open mic nights. They became a trio in 1995 when David Applegarth joined the group. John Langford arrived five years later and they have been together ever since. Steve Eyrick acts as the sound man and occasionally adds vocals.

The Salvation Army of La Porte expresses its deep appreciation to Cripple Creek and the folks of La Porte for their continued support.
