Munster Surgeon’s Donation Helps Women Access Breast Cancer Care

Munster-Surgeons-Donation-Helps-Women-Access-Breast-Cancer-Care-2018Board Certified Plastic Surgeon David Robinson, MD, and his practice, Indiana Plastic Surgery, have made a $1,500 donation to the Women’s Diagnostic Center of Community Hospital. This contribution will benefit the breast diagnostic imaging fund, helping local uninsured women to receive imaging and biopsy services at the Women’s Diagnostic Center.

“Women without insurance may forgo their mammogram to save money,” said Mary Nicholson, MD, medical director of the Women’s Diagnostic Center. “This is a risky decision, as these tests can detect breast cancer early when it is most treatable, saving lives. Dr. Robinson’s generous donation will help these patients receive needed imaging services.”

The donation was collected during fundraising efforts by Dr. Robinson and his staff in the month of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Raising awareness about breast cancer is a cause dear to the physician as his mother Virginia had fought a 28-year battle with breast cancer. Virginia Robinson was very involved with the programs and services at Community Hospital, serving as the guest of honor in the first Community Cancer Research Foundation Lights of Life ceremony, which raises money to support local advances in cancer research.

The Women’s Diagnostic Center of Community Hospital offers 3D digital mammography with same day results. With technological advances and coordination between area physicians, women can generally begin treatment for breast cancer within 10 days of diagnosis.
