Much Going On in Downtown La Porte

downtown-laporteWe see the kids, families, runners, walkers, dogs and artists in downtown La Porte, and asked Tiffany Bley, the Downtown director at the Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce, who are some of the folks that help make that happen.

"So many help in different ways depending on the time and event," Bley said. "We really appreciate them coming together to make these events possible and continue to build for the future."

Among the supporters are Engstrom's Jewelers, promoters of the "Dog Days Downtown" event among others. Cookery Tried &True Cafe is "a huge supporter" according to Bley. They often stay open late and participate in events held downtown.

Businesses like Mucho Mas and Lane Appliance provide a quality product and fantastic customer service for the area. They both hosted special events to help diversify 2nd Saturdays, including a "Cutest Dog Competition" for the second Saturday in September and a costume contest in October.

Clinton Worthington of Worthington Fine Art Studio also puts a huge investment into his downtown property. Worthington serves on the business improvement district board and walks downtown frequently.

IU Health La Porte Hospital has been involved in developing the Mainstreet program and has assisted in activities such as Fitness Fridays and Saturdays in the Sun.

Rocco’s Classic Gallery on Lincolnway has been great to work with downtown. Sarah, their new owner, understands the concept of exposure being very important for small businesses and not just the bottom dollar of sales. "This attitude is something I think is important for any downtown business owner to have," Bley said.

Other events regularly occurring in the area include: Second Saturdays and Free Jazzercise, also on Saturday.
