Michigan City Police to Increase Patrols this Weekend

michigan-city-policeThis weekend Michigan City will have an increase in traffic as visitors come to the Michigan City for the Super Power Boat races being held in Lake Michigan in Washington Park Michigan City. There will also be the taste of Michigan City being held on Franklin St. Motorist may experience traffic delays near the lakefront.

The Michigan City Police Department will have additional Officers working off duty this month, working the Operation Pull Over Traffic enforcement grant funded traffic safety patrols this Month.

Officers will be working with a primary focus of enforcing Seat belt, Child Restraint laws, Speeding and Following Too Closely, along with enforcing all other traffic laws throughout Michigan City.

Officers from the Michigan City Police Department will be making a special effort this year to ensure all motorists are safe around the Summer celebrations and encourage designated drivers.

With the first day of School August 19th for Michigan City Area Schools, motorist should be aware of children walking to and from school and playing outside, always obey posted speed limits. Buckle up to reduce the risk of injury or death in a motor vehicle crash.

Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working other traffic safety grants, including the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.

Operation Pull Over is a traffic safety grant program funded through federal highway safety funds and is administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
