Michigan City Police Department Warning about Noise Ordinance in 2015

michigan-city-policeThe Michigan City Police Department would like to warn citizens of our local NOISE ordinances as the summer warm weather is upon us and windows are open.

Motor vehicles. Operating a motor vehicle so as to cause excessive noise levels as a result of unnecessary rapid acceleration, deceleration, revving, tire squeal, or the operating of audio devices such as radios and tape players.

The fine required by section 46-36 and 46-37 is $75.00 for the first offense, provided the fine is paid for within 72 hours, excluding holidays and weekends. If the fine is not paid within 72 hours, the fine shall be $100.00 for the first offense; $150.00 for a second offense; and $200.00 for each subsequent offense.
