Michigan City Police Department OPO Traffic Enforcement & Patrols Announced for November 2016

michigan-city-policeBeginning Veterans Day Friday, November 11th, the Michigan City Police Department will begin participation in the Operation Pull Over Blitz 88 Safe Travel (Seat Belt and Impaired Driving Patrols) this Blitz enforcement will continue until Sunday December 4th.

The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street with the overtime paid by the OPO grant, Officers working the grant can also assist with several calls for service.

The Michigan City Police Department has just completed our participation in the OPO traffic enforcement grant for the month of October 2016. We had 8 extra patrols working 33hrs of overtime, paid from a Grant issued from the Indiana Governors Council and Officers stopped 70 vehicles for traffic violations.

1 arrest was made for an Armed Robbery from Hammond, possession of Marijuana, 1 arrest for public intoxication and 1 arrest for Resisting Law Enforcement.

Officers wrote 34 Seat Belt violations, 1 Child Restraint Violations, 2 License violations for Never Received a license, 1 Driving while suspended prior conviction, 6 for Driving while suspended, 1 Disregarding an Automatic signal, 3 Other traffic violations for False Registration plates and 2 Speeding violations.

23 warning tickets were written, 11 for Speeding, 5 stop sign violations, 2 for equipment violations for having headlights out, 5 other warnings, 1 for unsafe movement, 2 failure to signal a turn, 1 improper lane change and 1 license plate light.

Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working this traffic safety grants, including the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
