Michigan City Police Department OPO Grant Results for January 2016

Michigan-City-PoliceThe Michigan City Police Department has just completed our participation in the OPO traffic enforcement grant for the month of January 2016. We had 10 extra patrols working 33.5hrs of overtime, paid from a Grant issued from the Indiana Governors Council and Officers stopped 91 vehicles for traffic violations.

Officers wrote 66 Citations; two arrest were made (HTV traffic violator L-6 Felony and Carrying a handgun w/o a permit A-Misdemeanor), 42 for Seat Belt violation, 2 Child Restraint, 2 No valid License, 2 Suspended Driver Prior Misdemeanor,1 False or Fictitious Registration plate and 16 Speeding violation.

Officers also wrote 39 warning tickets; 1 No License in possession, 2 No Registration in Possession, 1 Improper Lane change and 1 Wrong way on a One-way, 24 Automatic or Stop Sign violations, 2 improper turn and 5 Speeding.

The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant can also assist with several calls for service.

Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working this traffic safety grants, including the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.

Weather permitting the Michigan City Police Department will have extra traffic enforcement paroles in the month of February.
