Michigan City Police Department Announces OPO Blitz 85 Aggressive Driving Blitz Results

michigan-city-policeThe Michigan City Police Department has completed our participation in the OPO Blitz 85 Aggressive Driving Blitz traffic enforcement grant from March 4 thru March 27. We had 18 extra patrols working 46.75hrs of over time, paid from a Grant issued by the Indiana Governors Council. Officers stopped 131 vehicles for traffic violations.

Two arrest were made; 1 OWI Arrest with a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation and 1 Arrest for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle. Officers wrote 76 Citations; 56 Seat Belt violations, 1 Child Restraint violation, 1 Open Container violation, 1 Suspended-Prior, 3 Suspended, 1 Following Too Close, 1 Failure to Yield, 10 speeding violation and 2 other traffic violations for Expired License Plates.

Officers also wrote 65 warning tickets; 2 no license in possession, 24 Speeding, 11 improper lane use, 9 for stop sign, 7 equipment violations, 12 other traffic violations (5 No Registrations, 3 expired license plates, 4 failure to signal turn).

The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant assisted with several calls for service.

Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working the OPO (Traffic safety) grant along with the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
