Michigan City High School Wolves Wire, September 2017

Wolves_Wire_September_2017Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! We are off to a great start in my first year as your principal, and I would like to thank all of our students, teachers, staff and administrative team who have made Michigan City High School the best place to be everyday! The administrative team is excited about the year and the places “we will go” academically, athletically and as One Pack!

It has been a pleasure meeting many parents/guardians and community members who have attended Pizza and Painting, Freshman Orientation, Taste of Michigan City and several sporting events. As a parent of two children, one a sophomore in high school, I know it is difficult to navigate everyone’s schedule. What I would like to encourage is that you stay informed, meaning, speaking with your child about what they are doing at school, using the RDS parent access, and emailing the school with any questions or concerns. We know parents/guardians are critical in student success.

The vision at Michigan City High School is Excellence for Everyone. The Wolves Wire, is filled with information regarding the many positive programs and opportunities MCHS students and staff encounter. MCHS has several positive firsts this year: this is year one of 4 schools within a school model (Honors College, Early College, Academy, and Core), year one of the AP-TIP IN grant in partnership with the University of Notre Dame, and year one of our one-to-one initiative with chromebooks. Our partnership with the community has enabled these opportunities for our students and we are thankful. MCHS is continuing the move forward in 21st Century Learning.

Michigan City High School has a great teaching staff, and strong support from our parents and community partners who are committed to each student graduating prepared for college and career readiness. MCHS students are involved in highly technical, rigorous and relative education at the A.K. Smith Career Center. Currently 250 juniors and seniors are attending the center from MCHS. There are 13 dual credit and certificate programs offered at A.K.S. preparing students for college and careers. These programs are partnered with leaders from industry and business that are on advisory boards to ensure state-of-the-art education for students.

I look forward to working with everyone this year in continuing the greatness that is taking place at MCHS! I want everyone to know that our mission is more than just words on paper; we are providing and expecting Excellence for Everyone!
