Among the organizations that they supported were the Unity Foundation, Dunebrook, the Salvation Army, the United Way, the LaPorte Veterans of Foreign Wars, the LaPorte County Homeward Bound , First Responders of LaPorte County Festival, and the town of Trail Creek. Additionally, the cadets also supported the following MCHS activities: the Open House on Sept. 6th, the ABC-TV Chicago affiliate story on MCHS school spirit, the Homecoming Pep Rally and Parade, and three home football games.

“Our cadets did not break stride from our summer community service,” said Senior Marine Instructor Major Tom McGrath. “Our new cadets have also been a great asset to helping us provide support to our school and community.”

Master Sergeant Jeff Benak echoed McGrath’s comments as to the consistency of the cadets to continue to support Michigan City. “Our cadets rarely take time off from supporting the many requests we receive from the community.”

The cadets will remain busy throughout October. They will be helping the local Marine Corps League Chapter in cleaning parts of Routes 421 and 6 in conjunction with the Adopt-a- Highway program on October 7th. Other school and community service projects include the Parent/Teacher conference night on October 18th, the Howl-o-Ween night at Ames Field on October 26th for Michigan City children, the Artist Loft Halloween event on October 28, as well as the sectional football game if Michigan City is the host team. They will also compete in Hobart High School’s Raider Competition on October 14th.
