With the year coming to an end and graduation looming, it was also time for Michigan City High School to honor its underclassmen. On May 27 awards such as perfect attendance, honor roll, and principal honor roll were given to students. But, for the latter half of the ceremony, City also awarded its “Wolf Award” and the “Alpha Award” to some of the best students. The wolf award, by definition and chosen by teachers, is given to the student with the best work ethic, spirit, and determination. The Alpha award is given to the student deemed “most outstanding” by teachers of each class. Most outstanding applies to grade percentage and citizenship. These two awards are given out by each department and presented by the department heads.
Though a pin with an award can guarantee satisfaction from each recipient, it does not reflect the amount of work that each student put in to their schoolwork. But, it is not just the Wolf and Alpha award recipients that put in the time, everyone does.
This ceremony was held by MCHS’s staff and presented by a combination of teachers, counselors, and administration in the auditorium.
