Michigan City High School Homecoming Week to Include Early Morning Flyover

MCHS-Homecoming-2017_01Chicago’s ABC Channel 7 news crew will fly over Ames Field in a helicopter several times between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15 – just one highlight of a busy week of activities Michigan City High School has planned in conjunction with Homecoming.

The ABC7 “Friday Flyover” will feature aerial shots of MCHS students making formations on the football field, which will be shown several times during the channel’s live morning broadcast. Reporters on the ground will interview students, administrators, and others -- spotlighting Michigan City High School and capturing the excitement and school spirit surrounding Homecoming.

All MCHS students are encouraged to attend the “Friday Flyover” and should report to Ames at 5:00a.m. Breakfast will be available, and school buses will shuttle them to the high school at the conclusion of the event. Members of the public are also welcome to come to Ames to watch the flyover and formations from the stands.

Advance tickets for Friday’s football game vs. the Merrillville Pirates are on sale beginning Monday in the MCHS Athletic Office (enter through door J in back of the school). Tickets are $6.00.

MCHS-Homecoming-2017_02All week, MCHS students are observing “Spirit Week,” dressing according to theme days, creating banners, and voting for Homecoming Queen.

MCHS-Homecoming-2017_03On Thursday, September 14, the MCHS Class Olympics will take place on the soccer field by the high school, from 5:00-7:00pm. Classes will compete in a “mom relay,” powderpuff football, ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, and tug-of-war. A bonfire will be held near the JV baseball field immediately following the Class Olympics (at approximately 7:00pm).

MCHS-Homecoming-2017_04On Friday, September 15, students will take part in a pep rally during the last class period. The high-energy pep rally, featuring all Fall athletes and the Homecoming Court, will be conducted by Power 92.3 radio.

Friday’s annual Homecoming parade will feature members of the Homecoming Court and their escorts, along with units representing classes, clubs, organizations, and elementary schools. The parade lineup is at 5:30pm in the parking lot of the Elston YMCA; the parade begins at 6:00 p.m. and will travel from Ripley Street south along Franklin Street to Ames Field.

MCHS-Homecoming-2017_05Friday’s Homecoming football game kickoff time is 7:00pm. Halftime will feature the crowning of the 2017 Homecoming Queen and the awarding of the coveted Spirit Stick.
