Michigan City High School’s drama club treated the community with their drama club’s presentation of “Clue on Stage High School Edition” on Friday, April 26.
Sophia Barczak and Zoe Brooks were the student directors for this play. This was a performance that garnered a lot of excitement throughout the entire cast.
“It's a murder mystery that is very similar to the film,” Barczak said. “It’s a classic, ‘Who did it?’ performance and we’re glad to be able to usher the cast into the spotlight.”
Both student directors have been a part of the theater program for the past two years. This play took a lot of preparation to put together and it couldn’t have been possible without a collective effort.
“There’s been some very long days and plenty of rehearsal,” Brooks said. “Everyone has put in the work and we’re very proud of how it’s come along.”
Ashley Sparks, who plays Wadsworth, shared a similar appreciation for putting on the show for Clue. They’ve been rehearsing for the past three months leading up to the show and it’s provided her with a lot of exhilarating moments.
“This play is great because everything just keeps on moving,” Sparks said. “There’s even one scene where I’m running around and everybody is cooperative and runs out of the way really quickly. Everyone is on stage the entire time which makes the performance more fun and chaotic.”
In addition, the cast noted how this performance is one that keeps them laughing. Arthur Joyner, who plays Mr. Boddy, is one member who lives for the laughter in every performance.
“The humor is really on point in this play,” Joyner said. “Some of the jokes land so well that it’s hard to stay in character at times. In rehearsals, I try to add little bits of improv in rehearsal to get the rest of the cast to do so as well. It’s such a wonderful environment and everybody is really supportive.”
Tatiana Miller, who plays Colonel Mustard, has also been filled with laughter and countless smiles in this performance. She loves how the theater program at Michigan City High School has a strong emphasis on building friendships that she can carry with her beyond high school.
“It’s really just a big group of friends. As a senior, this has probably been my favorite part of my final year,” Miller said.
From the cast and crew to the directors, everyone chipped in to make this performance one to remember.
“I think we get better every year,” Barczak said. “We’re grateful to have so many awesome students in the program. So many kids feel comfortable here and that’s what it’s all about for us. We’re happy to have so many supportive people come to our shows. It’s truly become a big family.”
Michigan City High School will have several more performances throughout the week. You can catch the play on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m.
