The La Porte County Family YMCA announced Monday the Michigan City Elston branch business office will be open Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. The new branch is located at 317 Detroit St, Door K in Michigan City.
Cindy Berchem, Executive Director of the La Porte County Family YMCA shared, "We are thrilled to be bringing a Y facility back to the Michigan City community. The community support has been outstanding! Getting the business office open is the first step in the process. Our goal right now is the have the business office opening followed by the rollout of limited programming, such as swim lessons, karate, open swim, lap swimming, youth programming, pickle ball, aerobics classes and more, beginning towards the end of April. Stay tuned for information as we get closer to the end of April.
Right now, we are looking for people that have a passion for making a difference in the lives of many. We have immediate openings for certified lifeguards, aerobics, yoga, Pilates, Zumba and other wellness class instructors. A Capital Campaign steering committee has been established and will be chaired by Craig Dwight, CEO of Horizon Bank. The campaign is an ambitious fundraising endeavor for the La Porte County Family YMCA as it gathers commitments from local businesses and investors in the community towards its ultimate goal of $750,000. The campaign will raise funds to complete renovations needed for development of a Cardio and Strength/Wellness Center, locker rooms and other equipment needs.
To capture the memories of the historical Elston Middle School, the Y is requesting all Red Devil and Wolf Pack students of the community, to send in their personal photos to display on a bulletin board inside the building.
