Michigan City Code Enforcement Sweep

michigan-city-sealMayor Ron Meer would like to announce that a city wide code enforcement sweep will be conducted the week of June 9th-13th. Utilizing Franklin Street and Barker Avenue as the axis points, the city will be broken into (4) quadrants, with all city personnel and equipment focusing on one quadrant each day.

The schedule will be as follows:

Monday, June 9th, East of Franklin and North of Barker
Tuesday, June 10th, West of Franklin and North of Barker
Wednesday, June 11th, South of Barker and West of Franklin
Thursday, June 12th, South of Barker and East of Franklin
Friday, June 13th, Overview of all areas

Issues such as: overgrown properties, vacant and abandoned houses, abandoned and unregistered vehicles, dilapidated houses and garages, Inadequate Animal housing and care, and any other identifiable safety hazards which could negatively affect the city and its citizens will be addressed. The Michigan City Police Department and the City of Michigan City inspectors will be issuing warnings and citations for code violations.

The Michigan City Fire Department will also be available in a city wide manner to assist any elderly or disabled persons with the installation or checking of their smoke detectors. For support, please call the Michigan City Fire Department at: 219-873-1440.
