Michigan City Area Schools Students Selected for Regional, District Honor Bands

Michigan City Area Schools Students Selected for Regional, District Honor Bands

Five Michigan City Area Schools instrumental music students will take part in Indiana Bandmasters Association Honors Bands next month. All five were selected for the bands from among hundreds of applicants.

Four students will perform with the 37th annual IBA All Region Honor Band at Portage High School on November 11 and 12. They include:

  • Isaiah Gudino, alto saxophone, an 8th grader at Barker Middle School
  • Colt Weatherwax, tuba, an 8th grader at Barker Middle School
  • Delaina Adams, flute, a freshman at Michigan City High School
  • Mia Taylor, clarinet, a freshman at Michigan City High School

The IBA All Region Honor Band will be directed by Mrs. Nichole Bier, Band Director at Creekside Middle School in Zeeland, Michigan.

MCAS-Students-Selected-for-Regional-District-Honor-Bands-2017_02In addition, Michigan City High School sophomore Adam Howard was selected to perform with the 18th annual IBA All District Honor Band at Plymouth High School on November 18 and 19. Howard is a trumpet player at MCHS. The guest conductor for the All District Honor Band is Dr. Jason H. Nam, Assistant Professor of Music in Bands and Associate Director of Bands at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Students in both regional and district honors bands will participate in a weekend-long series of part placements, rehearsals, and sectionals. The events will conclude with grand finale concerts held at each respective site at 4:00 pm.
