Michgian City Police to Offer “Shop with Our Cops” this Monday

mcpd-shop-with-cops-2014On Monday December 8th at 1:00pm, The Michigan City Police Department uniformed officers, A bunch of “Santa’s Helpers” and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at Walmart in Michigan City to host our “Shop with Our Cops” Christmas program! With the assistance of NIPSCO and generous donation through the Union Trades we are able to put on a unique Christmas Shopping Experience for mentally and physically challenged adults and children within LaPorte County!

This year we are sponsoring 103 individuals to shop from Sharing Meadows Share Foundation, the Parents and Friends of LaPorte County, the Barker Enrichment Center and the Special Education groups from the Michigan City Area Schools.

This all began as a project developed by Denice Denton with the help of the listed building trades who approached Chief Mark Swistek and staff with this fantastic shopping experience where we are able to bring some smiles to some very special individuals during this holiday season!

A big thank you to all involved including Walmart, Access LaPorte County, Michigan City News-Dispatch and of Course Santa and Mrs. Claus! The festivities will begin with a gathering in the Garden Center at Walmart in Michigan City where host Ric Federighi from WIMS will MC the event and introduce Santa and Mrs. Claus. After some refreshments and fun Officers and helpers will take all 103 participants shopping!
