Memorial Opera House Foundation Invites Public To Assist In Creating Giant Mural

rot1The Memorial Opera House Foundation invites the public to participate in creating an original piece of art using the Connected Paint process. The 15’ x 7’ mural, when completed, will be displayed at the Memorial Opera House. The Foundation’s Connected Paint mural will consist of 105 canvas panels that are painted individually by following a simple two-step process. The participants will not know the overall theme of the mural when they paint their panels. At the end of the evening, the completed panels are assembled to reveal a large themed original piece of art.

Members of the public can reserve a panel which they can paint for $50. Or, if they wish, they can sponsor a panel for someone of their choosing or allow the Foundation to choose the painter. All ages are welcome to participate, and no artistic talent is required!

“We are excited to sponsor an event that is a truly unique experience,” said Foundation President Jacki Stutzman. “The Connected Paint experience brings the public together to be a part of creating something bigger than themselves.”

All of the panels will be painted on Saturday, October 15th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on the stage of the Memorial Opera House. There is a limited number of panels available, and they must be reserved in advance. Appetizers and a cash bar will also be offered. Observers are welcome for a suggested donation of $5.00. Panels can be reserved by going to: http://tinyurl.com/ConnectedPaintMOH

The Public Broadcast System (PBS) will be filming the event as part of a documentary about the Connected Paint system. You can learn more about Connected Paint at this link: http://www.connectedpaint.com/

“What better way to honor the Memorial Opera House mission of celebrating history, community and the arts than including the public in a production that combines visual and performing arts all in one evening on the stage of the Opera House,” said Stutzman.

Proceeds of the event will benefit the Memorial Opera House Foundation. The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to support the preservation and growth of the historic Memorial Opera House to ensure its long term sustainability as an artistic and civic center.
