Memorial Opera House Celebrates the Holidays with Lunchtime Caberet

Christmas is right around the corner, and people are in the spirit and celebrating all over the region. The Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso did their part with the annual Christmas themed Lunchtime Cabaret.

"We are focusing on Christmas memories. Our cast and some of our volunteers will be sharing their favorite memories with everyone," Scot McDonald, Artistic Director for the Memorial Opera House said. "It's a nice way to say 'Thank You' to our patrons and to our volunteers... it's really been very successful and it's something that I think we will continue to do. It also gives the patrons to know us as 'us' instead of as performers."

"The volunteers are a huge reason why we are so successful," Trinidad Snider, Volunteer Coordinator for the Memorial Opera House said. "And it's the holidays so it's a time to cherish and recognize what we are grateful for. I like this event because it centers on people and relationships."

Guests were welcomed with cheery smiles that volunteers and the theatre staff wore. Two volunteers, Paul Kuzemka, Senior Vice President and Director of the Valparaiso Market for Bison Financial Group and Dan Styf, Financial Advisor at Bison Financial Group were at the ready, escorting guests to their seats before the show began.

"We enjoy supporting organizations that improve the quality of life for Valparaiso residents. Our support of Memorial Opera House was really a no-brainer," Kuzemka said. "We're very luck to have this in our downtown and the staff at the Opera House is continually putting on high quality shows so we're really happy to be a part of it."

Classic holiday favorites were performed by prominent thespians in the theatre community. "White Christmas", "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and so many more songs filled the theatre. Audience members could be heard singing along, swaying to the sounds of the live piano music that played along with the performers.

It was a lovely event, an excellent addition to the holiday events that are taking place all over Valpo and in the region. Don't miss the other events happening at Memorial Opera House: Annie will be stealing hearts throughout December and A Good Old Fashioned Christmas will be a great event that you don't want to miss the week before Christmas.
