MCHS Softball Team Hoping Positive Focus Will Pay Off

MC-softball-2013The 2013 Michigan City Wolves softball team is looking to combine a good time with a successful season, and beat a few rivals along the way. The team, which is led by four seniors, Gabi Sheppard, Theresa Saenz, Aubria Smith and Jameka Collins, is entering the season with a positive focus.

“I’ve been doing this for 20 years and the biggest thing is to have fun,” assistant coach Jim Kintzele said. “There is a difference between having fun and screwing around. Having fun actually leads to winning. We want to enjoy ourselves.”

The team is already cognizant of its strengths and will look to further improve as the season progresses. The team’s strongest point is defense, but that does not mean it falls short in other areas.

Kintzele continued, “We were nervous about our offense coming into the season. But the offense has really come along.”

The team is prepared and eager to compete in arguably one of the most competitive conferences in the state. The Duneland Athletic Conference is full of highly effective teams and for the past five years Michigan City has worked to become a contender.

The players will continue pushing for success and improvement and hopefully take down their rival teams, Portage and La Porte.

“We have a great group of girls. They have been great to work with. It is nice to get outside, enjoy the weather and smell the grass,” head coach Mike Megyese said.

As the cool weather wanes and ground thaws, the Michigan City Wolves are beginning to heat up.
