MCHS’ One City One Sound Set for December 4

ocos-2014-previewFestive music will fill the air as more than 1,000 vocalists and instrumentalists kick off the holiday season at the Michigan City Area Schools’ “One City, One Sound” concert on Thursday, December 4. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Michigan City High School gymnasium. Admission is free, however all who attend are encouraged to bring a canned good/ non-perishable food item for the Salvation Army. Monetary donations to the Salvation Army will also be accepted that evening.

This year’s “One City, One Sound” will feature:

• 463 voices in a chorus of sixth graders from all eight Michigan City elementary schools.

• 207 voices in a chorus of students from Barker and Krueger Middle Schools.

ocos-2014-flyer• 117 voices in the Michigan City High School Treble Chorale and “City Singers.”

• 4 hand bell players in the Michigan City High School “City Ringers.”

• 163 instrumentalists in a seventh and eighth grade band.

• 102 instrumentalists from the MCHS Cadet, Concert, and Symphonic Bands.

Each group will perform individually, and the opening and closing numbers will involve all bands and choruses in “It’s the Holiday Season” and “Christmas Finale.” Other numbers will include “Themes from the Nutcracker Suite,” “Polar Express Medley,” and “Under Winter Moon.” Music teachers from throughout the Michigan City Area Schools will lead their groups; the combined numbers will be under the direction of MCHS choral director Michelle Howisen and band director Quincy Ford.

“One City One Sound is a wonderful opportunity for the community to see and hear our music program, bottom to top,” says Ford. “It also gives the younger students a chance to see what is possible for them at higher levels.”

The concert will be broadcast live on Channel 98 educational TV, and it will stream live on the Michigan City Area Schools web site at EducateMC.net. It will also air live on Michigan City radio stations WEFM (95.9 FM) and on WIMS (AM 1420).

Note: Pahs Road in the area of Michigan City High School will be closed to west-bound traffic prior to the One City One Sound concert, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. During this time, all traffic departing the high school will be routed east on Pahs to Johnson Road.
