MCAS welding students at state competition

A contingent of Welding students from the A. K. Smith Career Center in Michigan City competed at the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference, which was held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on April 20. Welding student Michelle Kazmierzak (New Prairie High School) won first place in Welding Sculptures, qualifying for the national conference at the end of June. A Team of Drake Kluge (New Prairie High School), Brad Shireman (Lacrosse High School), and Gage Koepke (LaPorte High School), received third place in the Welding Fabrication contest. Altogether, these students received over $40,000 in scholarship offers that weekend. Many thanks to A. K. Smith Welding Teacher Ray Goss.
