Mary Katherine Slattery ’11 Travels to Panama with a Global Brigade Program

release-1Mary Katherine Slattery ’11, via University of Dayton and their Pre Med program, is participating in a Global Medical/Dental Brigade program which provides medical services to needy children and families throughout the world.

This program will bring doctors, dentists, nurses and med/pre-med students to Panama-to the cities of Ya Viza and Aqua Fria, in the Darien Province.

Students like MK will learn about the people and culture, use their Spanish language skills and will rotate at clinics, shadowing doctors, learning how to do effective triage assessments and discovering some of the common and not so common medical and dental issues, treatments and care approaches for people in such environments. They will also make medical visits to some residents in their homes as part of their rotations.

Other schools participating in this program are Texas A&M and Loyola University-Chicago.

The trip covered a one week period from January 5th-11th.
