The Marquette Catholic boys and girls basketball teams returned to action on Saturday. While the girls teams hosted the Lake Station Eagles, the boys team traveled to St. Ignatius (IL) to take on the Wolpack.
The girls basketball team played well against their GSSC competition and were able make a run late in the game. But the Eagles made the plays down the stretch and were able to escape with a 48-38 victory. The girls basketball team returns to action on Monday, January 20 when they travel to Wheeler to take on the Bearcats in the play in game of the GSSC Tournament. Game time is set for 5:30.
The boys basketball C team played at St. Ignatius in the first game of a triple header. The Blazers fought valiantly, but were over powered by Wolfpack as St. Ignatius took the first game 40-17. The C team returns to action on Monday, January 27 when they travel to South Bend Washington. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. CST.
The JV squad faired much better in the matchup and won the game down the stretch in clinching a 52-43 victory. The JV team returns to action on Monday, January 20 when they travel to Wheeler as well. Tip off is set for 4:30 p.m.
The varsity squad had a tough time getting their offense going as the Wolfpack used a 19-4 second quarter run to blow open the game. The Blazers played much better in the second half, but were never able to cut the deficit to single digits as St. Ignatius won 62-47. The varsity squad will also be traveling to Wheeler on Monday to take part in the GSSC Tournament. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
