Marquette Girls Split at Season Opening Invite

Marquette-CatholicThe Marquette Catholic High School girls basketball team tipped off their season at the Covenant Christian Invitational Tournament on Saturday and finished in second place in the tournament.

In the first game of the season, opening game jitters got the best of the Blazers in the first half as they were down 14 points at the half to Gary Lighthouse. But the Blazers bounced back in the third quarter, going on a 17-7 run to pull within four points. The fourth quarter was evenly contested until the final minute. The Blazers were down by one with less than 10 seconds left. But a steal by senior Dakota Kaplan with six seconds left and an eventual game winning bucket as time expired by sophomore D'aria Kincaid, gave the Blazers their first win of the young season.

The Blazers were not able to keep the momentum going in their second game of the tournament as they fell to Covenant Christian.

The team returns to action on Tuesday, November 19 when they host Washington Township. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
