Marquette Catholic Weekend Roundup: Boys Tennis, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer

marquette-highThree Marquette Catholic teams were in action on Saturday. The boys tennis team traveled to New Prairie to conclude the New Prairie Invitational that was delayed last weekend because of lightning while the girls and boys soccer team hosted a doubleheader against Hanover Central.

The boys tennis team won the New Prairie Invitational. Carter Moldenhauer finished in 1st place in 1 singles. Not to be outdone, Hunter Moldenhauer also finished in 1st place in 2 singles. Jacob Schmidt finished 3rd in 3 singles, Nate Shinn and Justin Smith finished 2nd in 1 doubles and Liam Roder and Patrick McDonnell finished 2nd in 2 doubles. The boys tennis team returns to action on Tuesday, September 10 when they host Lake Station. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m.

In the girls soccer contest, Hanover Central put away 3 early goals before Sophomore Maggie Mellen responded with a breakaway goal. Sophomore Sydney Snyder had the assist. The Blazers had 15 shots on goal but just could not find the back of the net. The Blazers fell 7-1. The Marquette girls soccer team returns to action Monday, September 9, with an away game at Westville.

The boys soccer team followed up the girls with an exciting contest of their own. They were able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead and traded goals with Hanover Central the rest of the way as the Blazers won 6-4. The Blazers were led by Jack Disser and William Connelly who each had 2 goals. Tommy Anderson and Dominic Vernon each contributed with 1 goal apiece. The boys soccer team returns to action on Thursday, September 12 when they travel to Hebron for a 5:00 matchup.
