Marquette Catholic High School to Put on “Fiddler on the Roof”

mchs-fiddlerDirector Amy Crane's 27th show at Marquette Catholic High School is the Tony Award winning, Fiddler on the Roof. Well-known by many for its themes of family, faith and tradition and beloved for its famous songs such as "If I Were A Rich Man" or "Far From the Home I Love," Fiddler is quite a feat for the usually small drama department. Crane has branched out to local grade schools in the past few years to help fill out her casts and it has helped to blossom the department. The cast for Fiddler contains 61 students, ranging in age from 4 to 18. How does Crane deal with such large numbers? "It's why I'm here," she answers. "This is my passion, sharing the art of theatre with kids. I couldn't have asked for a better group."

Crane's husband, Andy, deals with the technical and backstage side of things and he currently is working with a crew of 15, many of whom have never worked on a show before. This is the sort of challenge the Cranes welcome because it means their department is growing and more students are learning and enjoying the benefits of being a part of theatre. "It’s friendships, it’s technical skills, it's life skills all rolled into one. These are the moments you remember the rest of your life. These are the memories that last," said Amy Crane.

Fiddler on the Roof will be presented in the Marquette Auditorium/Rudy Hart Theatre located at 306 W. 10th Street on March 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:00 p.m., Sunday shows are at 2:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $10, students and senior citizens are $8 and children under 12 are $5.
