Marquette Catholic High School Students Attend Student Ambassador Workshop

mqt-gssc-competitionOn Wednesday, September 10, 2014 ten students from Marquette Catholic High School attended the Greater South Shore Conference Student Ambassador Workshop. Those students were freshmen Lauren McConnell, Connor Donaldson and Michaela Jennings; sophomores Emily Lazarek and Abby Andert; junior Malcolm Reed and seniors Joe Salyer, Libbey Cook, Michelle Espar and Emily Block.

The workshop, designed to teach high school students how to effectively engage elementary and middle school students in fun and learning activities, was designed by Lee Lonzo, an Educational Consultant with the Indiana High School Athletic Association.

The students also learned about the IHSAA's new Champions Together Initiative that was introduced by the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee. This initiative is a partnership with Special Olympics Indiana and the IHSAA Member schools. Schools must meet minimum requirements in the areas of 1) student-led servant leadership, 2) awareness, respect and inclusion as it relates to all individuals with intellectual disabilities, 3) volunteerism through service to the school and community and 4) fundraising to promote the vision and programs of Special Olympics Indiana and the Champions Together partnership.

Marquette’s principal, James G. White, states, “We are so appreciative of the IHSAA for putting this workshop together for the students and we certainly look forward to what it will all bring about. Volunteerism, leadership and service are three things that Marquette students are very familiar with and I know they will do great things with this partnership.”
