Marquette Catholic High School Alumni Set Up Scholarship Fund in Parent’s Memory

CharlesJoanMarquette Catholic High School announces today that alumni of the school, Jean Mulrenan ‘73 Perrin and Katie Mulrenan ‘85 Klopfenstein have generously established a scholarship fund with the Marquette Foundation in memory of their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Mulrenan.

The sisters plan to award a $1,000 scholarship to a current student each year at Marquette’s Honors Day ceremony. The recipient of the Charles & Joan Mulrenan Scholarship, selected by a committee, will be a student who possesses an appreciation for their Catholic education, who is college bound, and has a strong academic focus in their learning (3.0 minimum, cumulative GPA). The award will be applied to their Marquette tuition for the following school year.

According to Mrs. Perrin, her parents placed great importance on educating their children. Mr. Mulrenan, a chief engineer for the South Shore Line and Mrs. Mulrenan, a homemaker, took great pride in sending their children to Marquette High School and encouraged them to be lifelong learners. Jean and Katie cannot think of a better way to honor their parents with a memorial scholarship in their name at a school their family loves.

Scholarship applications are now available in the academic advising office at Marquette Catholic High School. Applications will be accepted from current freshmen, sophomores and juniors until May 20, 2015. The recipient will be announced at MQT’s Honors Day ceremony on June 9, 2015 in the Marquette Auditorium.

Marquette Catholic High School’s Principal James G. White states, “We are so thankful to the Mulrenan family for this generous gift to our students. We value our alumni and their commitment to and investment in the mission of our school. Jean and Katie are a great example of giving back – as are so many others. We are excited to see this memorial to their parents grow and benefit our students.”
