Marquette Catholic High School Again Named a Four-Star School

mqt-nhs-2015Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz announced Indiana's Four Star Schools. In order to achieve this designation, a school must be in the top 25th percentile of schools in two ISTEP-based categories and ECA state exams.

Additionally, a qualifying school must have earned an "A" in the state's accountability system and be accredited by the Indiana Department of Education. Marquette Catholic High School has again been named as one of those schools.

This model holds schools and corporations to higher standards and provides a more accurate picture of their performance by incorporating student academic growth and graduation rates, as well as college readiness, as measures of success.

Superintendent Ritz congratulated these schools today. "I am honored to name these schools as our Four Star Schools for this year," said Ritz. "Winning this award is a testament to the excellent work done by teachers, administrators, students and parents throughout the year. On behalf of the entire Indiana Department of Education I send them my sincere congratulations."

Marquette maintains its position among the best high schools in Indiana – schools like Brebeuf, Chatard, Cathedral, St. Joseph, Central Catholic and more. Marquette Catholic High School is the only high school in the Diocese of Gary who received this distinction this year and overall, the only school in Michigan City.

Marquette Principal James G. White states, “I congratulate our students, teachers and staff on this great accomplishment. We are educating students that come to us from seventeen different middle schools, from twelve different countries and from three different counties. To be a great school you must represent the community you serve. To be a great school you have to be open to the challenge of bringing everyone together and exceeding their needs and expectations. Daily, our teachers work to bring out the best in each other and our students. I am proud to be among them.”
