Marquette Catholic Boys and Girls in Weekend Action

marquette-catholic-logoThe Marquette Catholic Girls Basketball team traveled to Lake Station this afternoon to take on the Eagles. It was a close game thoughout and the Blazers had a chance to walk away with their first road victory of the season. But Lake Station made a run late in the game and was able to secure the victory.

The Marquette Catholic Boys Basketball team took on St. Ignatius College Prep in a triple header contest this evening and walked away with a pair of victories. The C team won the opening contest 47-37 and the JV follwed suit winning 41-38. However, the Varsity squad was not able to to make it 3 for 3 as they fell tonight 47-49. The Varsity contest was close throughout, but with time running out and the Blazers down two, they had no choice but to foul. Up two, St. Ignatius was at the free throw line with a chance to put the game out of reach by sinking two shots during a 1 and 1 opportunity. When the first free throw clanged off the front iron, Nathan Flores grabbed the rebound a lofted a 3/4 court shot as time expired. In a game of inches, the shot fell just short and St. Ignatius handed the Blazers their first home defeat of the seaon. The Blazers were led by Braxton Miller and Ryan Fazekas who both had 11.

The Blazers will be competing in the Greater South Shore Conference Tournament this week. The JV squad will be hosting Lake Station on Monday at 5:30 and the Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity will head to Lake Station on Tuesday. Girls contest begins at 5:30 followed by Boys at 7:00. Matchups for Thursday and Friday will be determined based on the outcomes of the other GSSC contests.
